Good Security System to Protect your Home

In your selection of the most appropriate security system for your home, it is essential for you to confirm whether the monitoring system of the local police station is configured to accept alerts from home security systems. If such facility is not available, then you may have to link up your home security system with a reliable alarm monitoring company. These companies do not only alert police authorities but also the fire department. There are also companies that have reliable network with hospitals and other health service providers for immediate medical assistance.

Most home security systems are operated with the disarming the alarm by keying in the pin code on the home control panel. The home alarm is activated and the local police or monitoring company is alerted if the pin code is not keyed in to deactivate the alarm system within a certain timeframe after an entry is detected by the home security system. There are also home security systems that alert you whenever the door is opened.

If you want to make a wise choice in your home security system like the pros do, then you have to seriously consider the following critical components:

Home Security Control Panel

This is the component that you use in arming and disarming the home security system. This is the device that serves as the nerve center and considered as the most important component of the system. It is also where the system wiring is hooked up and where you can find the backup power. The earlier versions of the control panel were made up of dry cell power pack, relays and a control key that can arm and disarm the whole system. With the advancement in technology, newer models are now outfitted with micro-processors that provide broader control options. These special features and control options vary from one maker of the home security system to another. A common feature of security systems is the test button that allows you to perform system check and a control button that is used to change the security code.

Home Security Siren

The home security siren alerts household members of possible break-in or unauthorized entry into your home. The deafening sound that it creates is in itself an effective deterrent to forcible and unauthorized intrusions. Security specialists recommend that one is set up inside the home, preferably within or near the bedroom and another one on the exterior wall of your home. You can also set up the siren adjacent to the gable vent inside the attic.

If your home is located in a compact community, a siren that has a flashing light is highly recommended as this easily helps security personnel and police authorities identify where the alarm is coming from. There are certain communities that require a siren that automatically shuts off after a certain period of time. This feature is essential during instances when the system is activated while you are not around.

Door and Window Contacts

Home security systems have magnetic devices used as circuits between the door frames and doors. This circuit that is formed by the magnetic device is broken once the door is opened, thus, automatically triggering the alarm system. These circuits are normally installed at the latch or top edge portion of the door. On the other hand, the circuits are set up between the window and the window sill. The circuit is broken and the alarm system is triggered when the window is opened while the home security system is in armed mode. The circuits for the window contacts are usually installed at the latch or top edge portion of the window sill. However, for double hung type of windows, the circuit is usually located either at the bottom edge portion of the lower sash or the top edge portion of the upper sash.
